NEWS RELEASE Date: Thursday 10 May 2012 Birthday Boosts Funds for Local Cancer Charity Urological cancer patient, Susan Killin, 31 Cameron Road, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, celebrated a big birthday recently with friends and family members, at a party held at the beach front bistro, The Sand Dollar Café and raised £800 for local urological cancer charity UCAN. Susan, who was diagnosed late last year with a kidney tumour, wanted to raise funds for UCAN after she and her partner, Dave Crocker received support and information at the charity's Cancer Care Centre, based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Susan explains; "It was so good to know that we could just drop in to the UCAN Cancer Care Centre at any time and get expert advice and reassurance from the urological nurse team. When you are first diagnosed there are so many questions that crop up at different times and to be able to lift the phone or pop in to the centre has made a big difference to both Dave and I. It's such a great facility and that's why I decided I wanted to raise funds to help UCAN to continue to offer this support to all urological cancer patients and their families". A total of 800 raffle tickets were sold and all the raffle prizes were kindly donated from local businesses and from their generous friends. These included vouchers for haircuts, dinners, car valets and flower arrangements. Dave's father, Mike Rennick (69), 158B Rubislaw Mansions, Queens Road, Aberdeen was keen to help and sold 150 tickets making him the top raffle ticket seller. Fiona JD Pearson, UCAN Fundraising Manager commented; "On behalf of UCAN we would like to thank Susan for her outstanding efforts in raising this fantastic amount. We are most grateful to Susan, her partner, Dave, and everyone who donated raffle prizes, sold raffle tickets and of course everyone who bought a ticket. Susan's donation will allow us to continue to work at making life better for everyone affected by urological cancer in the North of Scotland". ENDS Read more
