The UCAN Care Centre has celebrated it’s first birthday.  Between January 21st 2008 and the end of May 2009, more than 1012 patients have attended the centre with their friends and families and a further 388 patients have been seen in the ‘quiet room’ – a private area where they are informed of their diagnosis. Whilst visiting the Care Centre patients and their families can be given access to the online forum and to the buddy system, we have 35 advisors who have been through cancer themselves and are willing to support other patients.

We would like to introduce you to some of our recent appointees:

Sara Cox has been appointed to head up the University Research Team, which is funded by UCAN. Sara comes from the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations at University of Nottingham, where she was an Associate Professor in Health Psychology.  Work now be­gins on the Patient Information Needs Programme and the production of the 11 Plain English Guides which would help patients with various aspects of urological cancers and in particular will aid decision making on choice of treatment.
